Organization Overview:
Little Kids Rock (LKR) is a non-profit organization which has grown to become one of the leading free instrumental music programs in the country, serving public schools with high concentrations of low-income students. At the heart of the LKR program are its beliefs that everyone, young and old, can learn and love to create music and that the experience of learning to play a musical instrument can be a transformative one in a young person's life. Through partnerships with school districts, LKR is able to work with teachers to train them in its innovative curriculum - which is built around the rock, pop, rap, hip-hop, funk, blues, and reggae that children already listen to and enjoy every day - and supply them with the instruments and curricular support they need to establish successful, meaningful music programs, which inspire underprivileged young people and support their self-expression, self-confidence, and creativity.
